Top 5- Educational Kids Shows

The television is an interesting subject in our home. I have really worked hard not to let my little firecracker get wrapped in watching too much tv. So, when I do let her watch a little, I am very picky with the content and material. Majority of the time, the content is educational. Here is a list of the shows that we watch together the most!

1. Sesame Street

It goes without saying, Sesame Street is AWESOME! The new episodes produced by HBO are now 30 minutes long (which is a bonus for limiting screen time). Sesame Street teaches the alphabet, numbers, and a million and one other topics for preschoolers. There is also a Spanish version, Plaza Sesamo, which comes on our local PBS station. You should check your local PBS channel that broadcasts in Spanish for show times.

2. Super Why

Super Why is a cute show for preschoolers to practice the alphabet, learn phonics and reading skills. The story lines are even cuter because they are based on fairy tales or nursery rhymes. You can catch this show on Sprout or anytime on Netflix.

3.Wild Kratts

Wild Kratts is another show that comes on PBS Kids. It teaches kids about animals and caring for the environment. Your little one will learn about animals and their unique characteristics. I actually take notes during the episodes, so we can review the material later. 🙈😂. Check your local PBS Kids station or Netflix.

4. Team Umizoomi

Team Umizoomi is a show that comes on Nick Jr that teaches math concepts. Kids will learn counting, patterns, and shapes. You can watch on Nick Jr or with an Amazon Prime subscription.

5. Daniel Tiger

I cannot exclaim enough how much I 💜 Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood! This show is the modern day version of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood and I just LOVE IT! Daniel teachers toddlers and preschoolers about handling emotions, following the rules, making decisions, and everyday life concepts! It is wonderful! This show is great for emotional development! I have to say “Daniel does this or Daniel’s Mom said this…” fairly regularly to my daughter! And it works!

• Creative Galaxy

This show is by the creators of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (so it must be amazing, right?). It has the same layout as Daniel Tiger, with a cartoon portion and then real people section, however this sho focuses on Art concepts! There was one episode on Jackson Pollack that led to an awesome art activity for us! Click here to read more about that! This show is available with an Amazon Prime subscription!

• The Magic School Bus

And a personal favorite of mine, The Magic School Bus! Anyone who knows me understands how much I loved reading these books growing up! Thanks to my AWESOME MOM I get to read the actual books that I read as a kid to my kids now!!!! My daughter is the budding science geek and loves the books! She does not understand everything yet, but she enjoys the pictures and storylines. So, as an added bonus we occasionally will catch an episode on Netflix! As an additionally added bonus, you can change the language and watch in Spanish!!!
